SciTech Spotlight

On this day in 1824, the Rensselaer School was founded in Troy, N.Y., by Stephen van Renssalaer; becoming the first engineering college in the U.S. It opened on 3 Jan 1825, with "the purpose of instructing persons, who may choose to apply themselves, in the application of science to the common purposes of life." The school is now known by the name of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
